We have gotten the opportunity to partner with Operation Christmas Child for this post to share with you how filling a shoe box of supplies goes a long way 🙂 Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan’s Purse, an organization that has brought hope and joy to over 110 million children around the world since 1993 while sharing God’s gift (Jesus). I personally, have done a box each Christmas for as long as I can remember. They are a great way to brighten someones’ holidays who normally would not get anything. Especially in our day and age, we don’t usually think of other kids across the world; but we are so blessed compared to them! The least we can do is help out other children. There are 3 age groups and you get to chose whether you want to make your box for a girl or boy. The boxes are distributed in over 100 countries in 6 continents!!
The boxes should include:
- school supplies (pencils, pencil crayons, sharpeners, books)
- hygiene products (bar soap, face cloths, brush/combs)
- toys (balls, skip rope, dolls, cars)
- and a personal note/photo
- $7 in an envelope (for shipping and processing costs)
- DO NOT include candy or things that can leak or melt
National collection week is November 16-22. Click here to find the closest Operation Christmas Child drop off destination to you or here to pack one online (the Dollar Tree dollar stores are also partners with Samaritan’s Purse and carries the boxes). Two years ago I went to Mexico on a missions trip with a group from my church including my friends, family and others. We drove down to a little town near Tijuana, and got to hand out Operation Christmas Child boxes. It was an amazing experience!!! It was such a privilege to hand them out and see everyone’s ecstatic faces. The children were so happy and we got to show them Jesus’ love. These are children who are living with their families in homes that are in poorer conditions that our backyard sheds. I recommend putting in lots of toys because they love them-especially stickers! And headbands rather than clips for the younger ones with not much hair.
Have a great week and I hope you get the chance to change someone’s life this Christmas! xoxo
