Hey lovelies! So today Marley and I hung out with one of the lovely ladies from SincerelyBFF and made some wonderful scones that I want to share with you. We had a project for school to pay it froward and we decided to make some amazing scones and give them to our neighbours. I think this is a fun thing to do around the community and a great way to spend your day. This is a recipe that Marley’s mom found on Best Of Bridge then adapted.
What You Need:
3⁄4 cup milk
1 Tbsp vinegar
1 large egg
23⁄4 cups all-purpose flour
4 tsp baking powder
1⁄2 tsp baking soda
1⁄2 tsp salt
1⁄2 cup margarine or butter(cold)
1 cup coarsely chopped cranberries(fresh or frozen)
1⁄2 cup granulated sugar
Grated zest of 1 orange-save ½ tsp for glaze
Glaze:
1 Tbsp butter, melted
1⁄4 cup confectioners’ (icing) sugar
½ tsp grated orange zest
2 Tbsp fresh orange juice or substitute ½ tsp lemon extract
First preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Then you combine milk and vinegar in a small bowl and set aside. Next beat and add egg to milk.
In large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Cut in margarine until mixture is coarse and crumbly.
Mix in cranberries, sugar and orange zest. Add buttermilk mixture and stir until soft dough forms.
Using your hands, form dough into a large ball and place on floured surface. Pat out to 1-inch (2.5 cm) thickness.
Using cookie cutters, cut out shapes and place on parchment lined cookie sheets and bake scones for 15 to 17 minutes until slightly brown. Cool on cooling rack.
Make the glaze and put into a new small zip-lock bag. Snip a small end off the Ziplock and squeeze diagonally onto scones.
The recipe says that it makes 12 but we found that it made more that that. When we made 3 batches and we had over 40 scones. They are delicious and it was an awesome experience giving them to our neighbours and seeing their faces. If you pay it forward don’t forget to tag us #basicbloggerss! Have a great Thanksgiving all you Canadians xoxo Vienna
